I would like the children to be responsible to finish and correct any mistakes on work they have done in school. Please send this corrected work back to me on Monday in the folder. They will be motivated to want to make their corrections, because we do a "Homework Raffle" every Monday morning, and they can win a prize! If there is a score lower than a 70% and they correct it, I will change their grade on that assignment to a "Satisfactory." That way, every child should be able to receive satisfactory grades in all subjects on their report cards if they put forth the effort.
There will sometimes be other work earlier in the week which the children need to complete in the evening to return the next day. Second graders are still very young, and they need help developing good habits, so please ask them each day if they have any homework. In my experience as a mother and a teacher, I find that it is best if children do their homework quickly after school before playing, and before the TV or computer goes on. If they do it this way, they will only have 15-20 minutes of homework every day. Having the TV on, or waiting until they're tired seems to drag out the process, sometimes making it an unhappy experience.

So, remember:
Each day: Ask your children if they have any homework.
Fridays: Review folders. Have your child make necessary corrections.
Mondays: Return Friday Folders with corrected work inside.
