Dress

Second Grade is messy!  Your child should dress accordingly.  Please do not send your child in expensive clothes with instructions not to get dirty.  We sit on the floor, do science projects, art, and sometimes planting.  Everybody needs to participate without fear of ruining a fancy outfit.

See our schedule for when to wear or send gym shoes.  Some families prefer to leave a pair of gym shoes in the locker so they never forget when it's gym day.  But the most convenient way is to wear gym shoes so your child won't have to change their shoes.

Hats are not allowed to be worn inside the school.  Jewelry, if it is too distracting, will be saved for your child in the backpack until the end of the school day.

Flip-flops are not a good idea, because when we go outside for recess, they are cumbersome to run and climb in, and do not offer enough protection.

Please make sure your child wears clothes that fit.  Pants that fall down are uncomfortable, and skirts or tops that are the wrong size may be too revealing, which is upsetting to your child.

In cold weather, PLEASE send your child dressed for the weather.  They are not allowed to stay inside for recess (unless the whole school stays in due to inclement weather, of course.)

Mittens, hats, snow-pants, and a coat with a working zipper are a MUST.  Please contact me if you cannot afford these items.

During the rest of the year, layers are a really good idea.  Sometimes our room is too hot or too cold. Then it's so nice if your second grader is able to adjust by putting on or taking off a sweater or sweatshirt.

Although seven- and eight-year-olds are learning more and more independence, they still need your supervision in dressing appropriately.  Please help their second grade experience to be a comfortable one.  Thank you very much for all your support from home.
