Book Reports

Second Grade students are required to read 3 books each month outside of school, and write reports about them.  Chapter books count for two.  I help them a little on library day, but they have to finish on their own.

These books should be easy enough to read for enjoyment, but you can encourage them to stretch their skills, too.  They are allowed to check books out of the school library every other week, but books from home or from the public library are fine, too.   Do you have a Racine Public Library card yet?  If not, click here.  We also now have AIMSweb, a wonderful resource which helps find books at their reading level.  Take a look.

We provide book report forms which they can bring home, or they may write their report on a plain piece of paper.  Please include the title, author, illustrator, and what the book is about.  Remind the children that they are to read the book before writing the report!

This is probably the first time your child has had to remember a long-term assignment.  You should help them to remember to read each day and write a book report about once a week, or it will be too much to do right at the deadline.  This develops study skills and organization which will help in future school years.  Thank you for your support from home.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Gloede
