Curriculum

StorytownOur Reading and Language Arts curriculum uses Harcourt Storytown.  The materials are interesting to the children, and really help me differentiate my instruction for your children, regardless of their achievement level.  We have lessons about new skills, read aloud and silently, and we have independent learning opportunities at our "centers."  During this time I am able to help small groups and individual children with their unique needs.  We have lots of turns at the computers, make projects, and do lots of writing on paper, in the computer lab, and in our journals.  They have a wonderful website with activities for children and information for parents.  Here's the link: Harcourt Online.

We also have a wonderful resource for choosing books that are at just the right level to read for enjoyment.  Check it out here.

For Math we use Pearson's EnVision Math, which has a very nice format.  There are hands-on manipulatives for almost every lesson, as well as many additional online resources.  Here's the link: Pearson Online.  When you log on from home, type "rusd" and the student number as the username.  Your child probably already knows their student number, or you can ask me or the office.   And the password is rusd followed by their birthdate with no leading 0's.  (For example, May 6, 2002 is typed as rusd562002).

Our Science is fun and interesting.  Almost every science lesson is a hands-on activity, with topics from plants and animals to rocks and magnets.  We have grown flowers, cooked food from our mini-garden, hatched out baby chicks, and built bridges.  Everybody in Room 32 loves science!

Racine Unified School District has developed Instructional Targets for the various subject areas for each grade.  To see these, click here.
